The Certified Sexual Addictions Specialist Application is Now Available to Download!

Thank you for your interest in pursuing your credential as a Certified Sexual Addiction Specialist. Everyone who applies for a credential must specify the appropriate specialty designation as well as the level of credentialing that he/she is seeking. Two specialty credentials are currently being offered though the BCPPC: Clinical Sexual Addiction Specialist (CSAS) and Pastoral Sexual Addiction Specialist (PSAS). Each specialty designation also has four different levels of certification: Basic, Advanced, Supervisor, and Trainer.

Please download and PRINT all information that is requested in a legible manner, or mark N/A if not applicable. Illegible and/or incomplete applications will be returned to the applicant. The BCPPC will not disclose the confidential information given in this application without your express, written consent. Applicants who receive a core credential through the BCPPC and elect to participate in the AACC’s comprehensive Christian Care Network, understand that certain contact information (only business related and not personal), along with other pertinent demographic information (gender, age, ethnicity, years of experience, credentials, areas of specialization, etc.), may be listed in resource directories in order to assist those seeking help in making appropriate and/or desired choices for care. Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing.

Dear Interested Caregiver:

Welcome to the certification program in Sexual Addiction Counseling which is offered through the Board of Christian Professional and Pastoral Counselors (BCPPC). I hope you will consider applying for this specialty certification and that you will join the ranks of those who are trained to minister to a very wounded population of people.

Current research reveals that two-thirds of Christian men and one-third of Christian women, at some point, struggle with Internet pornography. One study found that 40% of pastors have also been involved with Internet porn sites. Sexuality in culture is pervasive and the immoral messages are legion. The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 12:2 that we “shouldn’t conform to this culture but that we should be transformed by renewing our minds.” If ever there was a time for effective Christian counseling in this area, it is now.

We have worked very hard to establish several different levels of certification. Individuals can be certified as either a professional or pastoral counselor. In addition, professional counselors can be certified as supervisors and trainers. I am most excited about the fact that we will develop an “army” of teachers and counselors who will carry the message to the next generation. Please carefully read over the descriptions of the various levels and the core requirements that are necessary.

One of the main reasons that I am so personally excited about this certification is that it is an answer to prayer. For many years, countless Christian counselors have been getting trained or certified with Pat Carnes program called Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). I began teaching in this program with Dr. Carnes back in 1989 and did so for a number of years. Everywhere I have traveled, many of you would ask me about doing a Christian alternative to this certification. The CSAT program is clinically excellent, but it does fall short of a true biblical understanding of how to counsel sex addicts, their spouses, and the two of them together as couples. The truth is that a person can become sober from sex addiction with a clinical approach to healing, but he/she can’t truly get well or heal without Christ in their life.

Therefore, even those of you who are CSAT and Christian will hopefully consider applying for our certification and going through a few extra steps that we have. I think that you will find that the AACC training videos and our training events are truly outstanding and that they will give you not only a biblical understanding, but also a great variety of instruction from some of the nation’s leading Christian experts.

Most of all, I look forward to fellowship with all of you who will be certified. Together, we can accomplish much in healing sexual brokenness.

In His Service Together,
Mark Laaser, Ph.D., CCSAS, BCPPC
